There are some wonderful outdoor spaces within a short drive of Clayton Hotel Liffey Valley. A good park can keep the kids happy all day, and help tire them out. We’ve picked some of our favourites to help you plan your next visit and if you feel like a picnic we can organise a fantastic selection of sandwiches, fruit and a few treats!

Massy’s Estate is one of the most popular recreational areas in Dublin. Its visual and recreational aspects offer a natural world of wonder for young kids (and old!). The vast site has wildlife galore and has many trail walks for you to explore.
A remarkable mansion was once pride of place in Massey’s Estate, follow the trails to discover the remains of the garden walls.
There are many tracks for you and your family to enjoy, and if you are lucky enough you might see one of the many animals who live in the forest including, sika deer, badgers, red squirrels and if you are quick enough you might even see a fox!
This is suitable for all fitness levels.
Visitors should use the Hell Fire Car Park. Please note the car parks opening hours and check notice of closing time before leaving for Massey’s. As is it Ireland that we live in we strongly advise bringing a waterproof clothing and especially boots.

Malahide Castle and Gardens is truly a wonderful place for the entire family to visit. From fairy gardens to its unique butterfly house it has something to keep everyone entertained.
The fairy trail is open from 9.30am, with last entry at 4.30pm in summer (April-October) and 3.00pm in winter (November-March) and truly brings alive the magic of fairies throughout this enchanting woodland experience.
If you are more interested in the most colourful species on earth, then look no further than the butterfly house. There are over 20 species for you to enjoy and it’s a haven for the most enthusiastic lovers and the less knowledgeable visitors.
The Butterfly House is open all year around from 9.30am. Last entry is at 4.30pm.
For those history lovers or anyone interested in country houses, estate manors or medieval castles this 800-year-old castle is just what you are looking for. The castle allows you to discover ancient artifacts, paintings, furniture and a gives an insight into what life was like many years ago.
Guided tours of Malahide Castle are available daily, all year around, with the exception of 24 – 26 December. The first tour of the day is at 9.30am and the last tour takes place at 4:30pm in the summer season (April-October) and 3:30pm in winter (November-March).

Open every day throughout the year, Phoenix Park is free to all visitors.
There are many attractions that are some of Irelands best kept secret,s from the Victorian walled kitchen garden to the Ashtown Castle and Demense.
Bring your own bikes or hire one at the entrance to the park for a very reasonable fee. Take a ramble amongst the forest and spot wild deer, squirrels and many different bird species. Stroll through the wetland areas and breeze through the wooded thickets.
You may not know that the Phoneix park sits on 1,700 acres of land. The location is ideal for family picnics, outdoor family activities and general family gatherings.

For the nature lovers amongst you, Castletown House is a must. If you dream of long walks with only the sound of the gravel beneath your feet and the sweet hum of birds this is an essential visit for you.
Castletown house is a fantastic place for the entire family. The eighteenth-century manor house provides the perfect backdrop for family picnics, long walks, casual strolls by the river and best of all entry to the parklands is free!
For those wanting to step back in time the grand manor is the perfect place to do so. The onsite café is located in the manor house and offers you an insight into what life was like 300 years ago.
The restored eighteenth-century parklands and river walks are open every day throughout the year.
